With the best out of the way, now it’s time to get nasty.
Be it because they are poorly designed, unappealing, unoriginal or simply feature the mug of an actor I detest, here are the ten worst movie posters of 2010.

10. Dinner for Schmucks
The first time I laid eyes on this hideous creation was when leaving the cinema after viewing The Last Airbender – yes, a double whammy of awfulness. I recall getting such a fright by Carell’s ginormous, grating and compellingly punchable noggin that I literally began to sidestepped around it, avoiding direct eye contact or catching my reflection in his teeth. For a moment there, my personal space was invaded. And believe me, Steve Carell is the last person I want all up in my grill.
9. The Switch
Sex certainly sells, but as for the bodily fluids associated with it… not so much.
I’m having a hard time deciding what I hate most about this poster: Jason Bateman snorting semen, or Jennifer Aniston looking all Jennifer Aniston-y? Actually, what really irks me the most is the visual disconnect between the two actors and their expressions. The designers can’t even get the order of action/reaction right.
8. The King’s Speech
How on Earth one of the year’s best films can have such a terrible poster is beyond me. Uninspired in its composition, meaningless in its relation to the themes of the film and poorly Photoshopped together.
7. Sex and the City 2
Here we have the rejected poster for Devil. Or perhaps it was Secretariat?
Also, if you’re a Twilight fan and have ever wondered what vampire sand looks like, wonder no more.
It’s a pity Paul Walker, Chris Brown and Hayden Christensen weren’t all in the same room when this overly busy poster was photographed, because if they were, it would have been a prime opportunity for a *ahem* “freak accident”. But look closely and you’ll not only see that these men have been Photoshopped in individually – notice how the lighting is all over the place? – but also that their heads have been cut out of another photo and attached to the bodies pictured (known as “headstrips” by those in the know). Then there’s Matt Dillion, who despite being first billed on the poster, decided he couldn’t even be bothered showing up for the photo shoot. Wise man.
5. Extraordinary Measures
Movie posters should immediately grab our attention and convey something interesting about the film they’re selling. Not Extraordinary Measures. This poster just shows two bored actors with transparent shoulders. Maybe that’s a killer plot twist in the film – “I see shoulderless people” – but I’m not convinced. In any case, the harsh lines created by this bizarre body merger draws attention away from whatever the focal point of this nonsense is supposed to be. And what’s with the overexposed photo?
4. Yogi Bear/ Furry Vengeance
Here’s something new I’ve learnt in 2010: grizzly bears are backdoor bandits. They’re repeat offenders too, giving both Boo-Boo and Brendan Fraser a sneaky surprise. At least I now know what a ‘Furry Vengeance’ is…
3. Accidents Happen
This tacky, bizarrely disconcerting imitation of the original Stepford Wives poster certainly attests to the fact that accidents do happen. It does, however, deserve some kudos for making it appear as if Justin Bieber took a bowling ball to the head while shooting the music video to “Baby”. My, wouldn’t that have been nice.
2. Knight and Day
To put it bluntly, this poster is tasteless, tactless and completely unengaging. The colours are foul. The composition is dull. The paint splatter effect has ZERO connection with the film. The actors are jarringly detached from the backdrop and look bored stiff. This is how not to do retro, folks.
1. When In Rome
Warning: this poster may cause retinal damage.
The childish fonts and sickening colours are deplorable enough, but it takes a special kind of talent to make the usually charming Kristen Bell look like an irritating ditz who bathes in fluoro urine.
